National School Counseling Week – Eastside High School

Monday, February 5th – Friday, February 9th

National School Counseling Week 2024, “School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused,” celebrated Feb. 5-9, 2024, focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, presented by ASCA, highlights school counselors’ tremendous impact in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.

School Spotlight: Eastside High School

Counselor Corner: Michelle Stanford

Michelle Stanford is the Head Counselor at Eastside High School!

Ms. Stanford loves being a Counselor because “As a first generation college student, I realized that it was tough and it is really nice to be able to guide people to make that process easier!”

Ms. Stanford enjoys showing her students all of the available options and opportunities that they have! She enjoys “helping students go to college just as much as I help students get back on target with credits.”

She expresses what her job means to her by stating “This job is about helping students achieve their full potential and making the most out of their opportunities, as well as supporting our families. It is about collaborating with all of our staff and administrators to create the best environment our students can be in!”

The Lions at Eastside High School are incredibly fortunate to have Ms. Stanford as the Head Counselor of such a caring, School Counseling Staff!

Counselor Corner: Silvia Vital

Silvia Vital is one of the newest Counselors at Eastside High School!

Ms. Vital has been in education for over 20 years and held many different position such as being a Bilingual Aide and Teacher.

This is Ms. Vital’s first year as a Counselor and the reason she loves being a Counselor is “it gives me the opportunity to reach students in a different way.” As a previous teacher, she mentions that it is not always feasible to get one-on-one time with all her students. She elaborates that “this job allows me to individualize help and have more contact with the parents, seeing the change!”

Ms. Vital mentions that this is her 5th month of being a Counselor and although it has been tough to see the hardships her students go through, she is invested and treats them like her own children.

She reveals that being a Counselor allows her to see the difference and the impact counseling has on students, she can now “help them see things that they otherwise might not see.”

Thank you Ms. Vital for all of your service in Education and for dedicating your time and expertise to all of your students!
