On Wednesday, November 8th and Thursday, November 9th the AVUHSD hosted a two-day Youth 4 Justice summit!

Workshops!

The Youth 4 Justice summit is an interactive and engaging introduction to the Justice System!

With workshops hosted by:

  • Local Law Enforcement
  • California Highway Patrol (CHP)
  • The FBI
  • Homeland Security
  • Correctional Officers
  • The District Attorney (DA)
  • Local Judges
  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
  • The I Fear for my Life (IFFML) Delegation

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Kideste Yusef, Ph.D

We had the honor of having Dr. Yusef as our Keynote Speaker! Dr. Yusef shared her knowledge and her “I Fear for My Life” initiative with students. Dr. Yusef also led small group discussions with all our students who attended!

Dr. Kideste Mariam Yusef is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and the Department Chair for the undergraduate and Master’s in Criminal Justice Administration programs at Bethune-Cookman University. She also serves as the Director of the B-CU Center for Law & Social Justice.

Her areas of expertise include community-police relations, police accountability and use of force, race and social justice, and performance management.

Dr. Yusef leads the “I Fear for My Life (IFFML)” Initiative, which establishes a national dialogue between African American youth and college students and police officers across the country toward identifying strategies that build trust and create greater equity in policing.
